Though I am not a resident of Ontario, I think it is imperative that PickUpPal be allowed to continue to operate in Ontario, lest there be similar moves to shut this important ride sharing service down in other provinces. So as as a British Columbian who has used this service, and an environmentalist who sees PickUpPal as a great ecological alternative, I urge you to take action to keep this option alive for all of us across the country who use it.

Show some balls, Dalton! Stand up for the people of this province against an international corporation. Less cars on the road, that'a a good idea!

I find Trentway Wagar's action against Pickup Pal to be nakedly self-interested and contrary to the public interest. If the Public Vehicles Act can be interpreted to prohibit carpooling and ridesharing, then it is obvious that the offending provisions should be revised immediately.

Pick-up-Pal is a practical and emission reduction option, and it's safe too. Citizen's are asked to reduce consumption all the time, they are forced to live with higher costs, and now that an alternative has been found, bus companies and government are not happy. Ride Share is no different than transporting my kids' friends.

As a Canadian citizen and an Ontario tax payer I am thoroughly disappointed by this legislation that was enacted to restrict the good intentions of residents all the while completely contradicting the efforts and expenditures of the province to develop High Occupancy Vehicle lanes. For a nation that considers itself forward thinking, economically responsible, democratic, and socially conscious, this is sheer lunacy at best and professional misconduct at worst. Shame on you Premier McGuinty.

Of course Pickup Pal should be legal!!!

I feel that the government should change the legistlation in favour of the environment in general.

It's absolutely ridiculas that PickupPal has to go through this. There are so many reasons why this is a good idea. Please support our petition.

It's imperative that we cut down the number of cars on our roads. Isn't car-pooling a good start?

This is another bad example of big corporations using their power and greed to oppress the ingenuity and resoursefulness of the individual person all in the name of the almighty dollar. Big business doesn't care about the benefits that could be achieved from the provision of the pick-up pal service or others of its kind. They could try to find a feasible solution that would benefit all parties involved but instead chose to try to ban pick-up pal completely. This stinks of greed and encourages oppression of ideas and ingenuity which could benefit society as a whole. We as a society are slowly becoming a police state where everything is becoming unnecessarily regulated and controlled.

I have never used PickupPal but after becoming aware of the upcoming hearings, I decided to spend a bit of time on the PickupPal site and discussed it with a user. I must say I am confused why the government would not be doing everything possible to promote and assist organizations of this nature as opposed to shutting them down? I am one of those people who thinks nothing of driving my full sized vehicle alone but I must commend those people that using a service like PickupPal. As I see it, it is good for the environment and it is a significant benefit to those individuals requiring inexpensive alternatives to the high cost of travel...Especially given recent fuel price increases. My primary concern is one of safety. So why doesn't the government actually assist these drivers and passengers by requiring mandatory photo identification and registration of participants. This should be possible to do at minimal cost....Robert Buck

At a time when all levels of government are promoting both environmentally sustainable living and greater home efficiency, Ontario's law is clearly counter-productive at best. Trentway's suit should be treated not as a legitimate business complaint, but as a nuisance suit. Our government needs to step forward do all it can to support car-pooling, ride-sharing, or anything of like sort which reduces traffic and greenhouse emissions.

Carpooling has been part of transportation since the beginning of time. Carpooling NOW means a healthier environment, and less accidents. People are less likely to speed when they have people in the car with them that are strangers. Carpooling helps with reducing poison into the air. The only reason why bus/coach companies are trying to protest this, is that they are loosing cash...how greedy! If they were to find a more creative solution to their issue, they might be helping in saving the environment! If you stop this carpooling, then carpooling within cities should be stopped, as well. Same thing, different geographical area. Just people catching a ride in a vehicle that is going the way they are going. It's nice to have company on these trips, as well. I have met many people and they have all been very nice. It closes the "gap" on social society...makes us all a little happier. I think it's ridiculous to try and stop car pooling! We aren't out to make a profit...just to cut down on crap in the air and to help out a bit.

As someone who has used the limited public transit in ontario ( in northern ontario it is especially horrid ) i believe that websites, such as pickuppal, give your constituents more options. Bus and train times can be so few and far between it is frustrating to take public transportation, not to mention the punctuality and steep price. I like carpooling, i can save money ($60 in gas money split between passengers, compared to $78 train/bus ticket - based on kirkland lake to huntsville) but it also reduces the amount of cars on our already overcrowded highways. Please don't condemn pickup pal mr.mcguinty, for it is truly a public service.

You would have to be real stupid to stop this. Finally people are getting of the road. Every little bit counts where Global Warming is concerned. Fact is this is nobody's business except the people involve. This is just another Big Brother move to control people. Mind your business Politicians.

This seems ridicules with todays gas prices and the amount of public money spent on carpool parking lots, HOV lanes etc. Get with the times.

Hmmm wonder why the bus company wants to shut down a ride sharing website??

What right has the OHTB to ask the Ontario Government to shut down Pickuppal Inc.1) Pickuppal are saving people money by riding together 2)they are helping with global warming 3)they are using the fast lane taking away digestion on the highways !So whats the problem with this OHTB, do they want to monopolize the roadways because they will be losing money, if so they have a sorry way of doing business

If you take the environment seriously there is NO justification in maintaining this law. Cease the action against PickupPal as this make no sense for the public you serve.

In the case that your site is shut down, I hope to see you turn it into a public forum for ride sharing, and have a small members fee or advertizing to cover the cost, i don't know much about the laws your dealing with, but could you not host your site from a differant contry to make it legit and change method of payments.

The current legislation governing carpooling and ridesharing is ridiculously restrictive. As a student, I cannot afford a car, and often myself and others will share rides with other students and other people, because it is the most time and dollar efficient way to do things. Get rid of these laws!

Here we are trying to cut down on the use of vehicles out on the road and yet in Ontario carpooling in anyway where money is a factor then it's a no no... Holy Cow someone please explain!!! That right there make's absolutely NO SENSE at all!!!

Car pooling is a choice made by people who want to share the cost of driving to and from work. That means less cars on the road and less green house gases.

I think shutting down something like pick-up pal discourages people from going green. Is this not something we want to encourage? The only thing under threat here is the transit system, so maybe they should be tweaking their system and prices so that people wouldn't

Pickuppal has proved to be extremely helpful for people like who don't drive regularly - more useful than Trentway-Wagar whose only objective is making profits hands-over-fists, even as their buses are late and personnel -rude. Turn a deaf ear to the Wagars of the world.

I find it troubling that a bus company would object to this carpooling, as most bus and train services only cater to urban areas as far as meshing with normal work hours. I myself live outside of the GTA and tried to find the best public/private transit solution, and found nothing suitable, and everything is outragously priced-even in these times of extreme gas prices. I now must drive to arrive at work, on time, at a price that is less than bus or train fare. I drive a large luxury car which is among the worst offenders for gas guzzling. I need to carpool. Please keep Pick-up Pal going, and allow other organisations like this to exist.

Ontario is home to what is said to be the busiest section of freeway in North America - the 401 through the GTA - said to be busier than Los Angeles' and Atlanta's freeways. The PVA should be ammended to allow citizens the ability to sensibly carpool and share rides to cut down on the gridlock that plagues our city every day. Not only does it slow business, but it also puts an enourmous strain on the atmosphere where over 5 million people live. Coupled with the ability for riders to save money on the soaring prices of oil/gas. Ontario is still in the process of testing low speed vehicles, which is slated to be completed in 2011. What is taking so long!? Does the province really need FIVE years to test out LSV's in provincial/municipal parks? Think about the cost of gas 5 years from now! Please speed things up. Dalton McGuinty has said that reducing greenhouse gas emissions was one of his top priorities, and has aggressive targets that will be met by 2014, 2020, and 2050. If these are government enacted targets, why not let the citizens HELP OUT by taking matters into their own hands instead of waiting for a government that changes directions every 4 years???

Every time I drive on the 401 highway I see signs that say save the environment by carpooling. How can we follow a government run sign if it's illegal. That's like the government putting a sign over the 401 reading "Please drink and drive". PickupPal is a GREAT service, which is helping the environment and cutting down on the number of cars on the 401. Which indirectly can save the government money on expansions to the road. Why not amend the Public Vehicles Act and get behind PickupPal!!

This service is valuable not only to everyday people, but especially for college students, who i am one. This service allows us to subsidize our income, making travel a little more affordable for ourselves.
