I agree absolutly and not particularly for the money..I often drive long distances and am always looking for someone to keep me company...it is so much safer this way than picking up hitchhikers...please change this archaic law and take the monopoly away from the bus companies who are just being greedy and malicious with the court action..

This is a service that is not only ecologically sound, but just made people less likely to hitchhike and is not going to threaten the financial stability of the big Bus, Plane or other travel industry. It's basically a big bulletin board for rides. If you shut this down, you may as well shut down all other community sites that offer a service like this.

Now more than ever we need to amend this law and allow responsible conservation of fuel.

This law is ridiculus, aren't we suppose to be helping the environment.

PickUpPal provides a service that is beneficial to both passengers and drivers, as well as the environment. The Public Vehicles Act of Ontario needs amending to allow for this innovative, yet common sense solution!

Anything that can help cut down on emissions should be looked at and this seems like a quick and easy win. Buses shouldn't be considered the only option for people.

Dear Mr. McGuinty: PickupPal is an important part of commuter's lives in this day and age of gridlocked traffic, air pollution and not too mention road rage. I live in a northern Ontario community called Kirkland Lake and as of October 1 2008 the Ontario Northland Bus Service will no longer drive into Kirkland Lake to pick up bus passengers, instead people needing to take a bus will have to get out to Highway 11 in Kenogami which is 15 kilometers away and catch the bus out there....I do not have a driver's licence and I must walk to my destinations within the town limits of Kirkland Lake, otherwise I rely upon others to drive me out of town. I have not used this PickupPal driving service but I have read articles about this much-needed service and this type of system should be encouraged because it would be cheaper and quicker than trying to take a bus, train or an airplane. There are many people in this country who cannot afford to buy a vehicle because they only work part-time, at minimum wage or they only work a contract or short-term job. People pay enough for gas and car insurance so why make this process any more difficult? Who is to say that when you board an airplane that one or both of the pilots are under the influence of drugs and/or alcohol? Maybe the Greyhound Bus driver has a previous criminal record? No matter what form of transportation you take, there is always the risk of an accident or passengers injuring or killing other passengers when using mass transportation. Thank you for taking the time to read my concerns.

Just a reminder... Allo-Stop is still in business in Quebec, *and* has the support of the Quebec government!

These activities will help toward reducing our transportation and fuel-use footprint on the planet. Not only that, they are very helpful to students and others with limited budgets. As a student who lives in Quebec and studies at an Ontario university, I rely heavily on shared and public transportation.

If the Ontario government is serious about reducing the levels of carbon emissions from vehicles and is sincere when it says that it is subject to the will of the people than it will do the proper thing and amend the Ontario Public Vehicle Act. Failing which it will be the object of ridicule by the rest of North America.
