There is no legal rationale on which you can shut PickupPal down. If you find a technical loophole and shut it down, you will hear from the people of ontario. Ride sharing is not illegal. If people would rather share a ride than go on public transport, then look for the reasons that this happens and don't just shut down anything that may threaten the finances of the already heavily subsidized and poorly managed public transport systems of ontario.

Carpooling is not something that should be regulated. I wish it was as well organized where I live (New Jersey, USA) as it is in Ontario --- We could use a PickupPal network, especially during rush hours! The OHTB need not worry about losing fares. The reason I don't take public transportation is because I work in different locations each day, and the buses usually don't go to those places (or take hours to make a trip that's less than an hour by car). I'm pretty sure that most of the bus riders in Ontario find the bus cheaper & more convenient than driving, and will continue to use buses. Most of the carpooling, apparently, is related to special events anyway. Without carpooling, you'll find your highways horribly congested. I myself have to allow an extra half hour to get to work because of routine traffic jams on two of the major freeways here. The carpool lane is just as blocked-up.

Having a positive impact on the environment should be the guiding principal that our governments should be working towards. It is difficult enough to get people out of their cars without imposing senseless and illogical restrictions to shutdown non-profit websites like PickupPal, where the only aim is the implementation of out of the box thinking that government is unable to come up with itself.

As someone who spends over $300 a month to pack myself into overcrowded, slow and noisome GO Transit, I have a far greater interest in sharing a ride with other commuters. It's cheaper, faster, and more comfortable.

This service is a "MUST". Not just for the people who use it but for the environment and the health of our children's future. We need more of these programs since the government won't give us a mass transit system that real people can afford.

Thank you for once again proving that prominent elected officials are out for their own pockets and not the collective good.

This is an outrage - you people have talked the talk but when it comes time to do a no-brainer like this, you forget what you said - you are losing my vote very quickly!

Ride sharing is an economical, eco-friendly way to get around. The corporations can sell themselves on comfort and schedule.

Instead of taking the easy way and being a "hero" by making a new holiday, which did nothing but COST businesses money with no effort on your part at all; pass this bill and make your second term worthwhile.

Instead of creating a new holiday in Feb, which costs business money and required no effort on your part, do something that's actually worthwhile in your second term, and get this passed.

This law was intended to protect people from transportation companies running people without insurance. It should not apply to organized ridesharing!

Shutting down sites/groups like these is going against exactly wyhat the government is trying to do, to go green.

As a Canadian citizen living in the US (my sister lives in Toronto), I want to chime in on this--car sharing sites like PickupPal are a great way to reduce traffic and it's inconceivable to me that my government could do something so boneheaded as to shut car-sharing down. Do the right thing!

Toronto's gridlock and pollution is getting out of hand! Change the damn laws! Carpooling is an awesome idea, and our laws are dumb. The Americans are laughing at us! Come on. Someone needs to do something - and NOW. Sitting around and crying about global warming isn't going to make it go away!

Our government either means to help the environment or let it go down the drain. This is a small step, but it sure as hell shows that the 'little'people are trying to do our part.I trust that this issue is resolved to help our only Earth we have.

This is a great way; to save on gas and help the environment Why not do it?
