Car sharing is a common service offered in Germany for more than 30 years. How can Ontario be so antiquated an try to put down a website offering a service that helps the individual in the same way as it helps the environment? |

The type of ride sharing promoted by PickupPal has been going on informally for years. The current legislation makes unwitting criminals of thousands of Ontarians and promotes the "one car, one driver" mentality. |

I do not fully understand the ins and outs of the laws that would somehow provide for the shutting down of socially and culturally responsible rideshare programs, but I find the idea that it can and does happen reprehensible and ridiculous. |

3. It is imperative that we consumers ask of you, during this time of ecomonic struggle, keep in place and expand upon transportation resources. Use this opportunity to come up with fresh ideas that will help maintain effectiveness for all. |

What's most important? A fraction of Trentway-Wagar's (et al) bottom-line ... or a significant reduction in carbon emissions along with the safeguarding of our rights and freedoms to choose how we move about in the world? |

It would surely be a breach of public trust and your duty as a public official to allow transit industry business interests to quash the ability of citizens to organize their own car pooling. This looks like an abuse of the legal system. |

This is an essential service and the community need for it is great. Do the responsible thing and let it survive! It should be our own right and decision how we share our vehicules and use the roads our taxes pay for. How are we to take all of the governement's efforts to promote action on the part of the environment seriously when they forbid costless citizen initiatives in this domain to favour corporations' rights? Isn't it also sending a confusing message to our children who are taught civics, social responsibility and environmental science? |

This petition is being posted on Stillepost and the yahoo e! Mole news group. Given the recent examples of the bus companies complete disregard for consumer safety, this act must be stopped now. |

Bus service from the major carriers in Ontario is mediocre, inconvenient, and expensive.Sites like pickuppal.com are my only reasonable alternative to get me where I need to go. I'm not spending close to $100 and 14 hours of my life to travel 500 km on a bus! |

Dear Premier McGuinty I add my support though I am in Victoria BC where we are able to ride our bicycles instead. To this whole issue I say "Duh!". It's a no-brainer that we should be ride sharing and carpooling this way. Get with the programme! |

Allowing large corporations to run roughshod over innovative, public service oriented ventures such as pickup pal is an affront to any commitment to environmental protection as well as the freedom of all Ontarians to choose a mode and means of transport that best suits them. |

I believe that the Act needs to be rewritten, or an exemption provided. It is all well and good to talk about 'sustainabilitity' but the public transportation system in the Province of Ontario is a disgrace, and the Minister of Transportation needs to get busy rewriting acts and regulations to encourage, rather than discourage these types of services. It is one thing to operate a commercial car pooling business. It is another thing for citizens and commuters to use a car pooling system to connect with each other in a cooperative fashion. Time to change the law to something that reflects todays values. |

In the face of climate change, peak oil (peak energy) and declining standards of living, it is urgent that we provide appropriate transportation options to all communities. Car pooling systems and jitney service have proven successful in many regions, and we need to enable these throughout Ontario, and especially in suburban and rural areas. |

This is a valuable service that enables people to help each other, reduce demands on our declining petroleum resources, and reduce all vehicle emissions. It also helps people who might not be able to afford travel to travel within Ontario. The government not only should not allow this service to be shut down, but should actively support it. |
